GroovetalkSpotlight: Cortex’s “troupeau bleu”

Cortex is a french funk band from the 1970’s! Led by famed Parisians paino player, Alain Mion and drummer Alain gondolfi. Mion debuted as a professional piano player in the 1960’s with his own trio that performed at Blue Note and various festivals. Cortex was formed in 1974 and were inpired by Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, and others. This band has an exotic sound and is one of  the many “70s Groove Gems.”

To undergound hip hop heads and crate diggers, this is a band to add to your collection. People came out of the woodwork, including yours truly, when MF Doom dropped “One Beer” with the song sampled is Cortex’s “Huit octobre 1971!” Ordered through amazon from France directly, I had to have it. With Mireille Dalbray’s incredible vocals, Huit octobre 1971 is one of the few songs that put tears in my eyes, the first time I heard it! An absolute must have for any crate digger or anybody that wants something truly authentic and incredible.

nuff respect,
